Aortic stenosis: clinical case
Abstract
Aortic stenosis is a degenerative disease, which occurs more frequently in people over 65 years of age, and it is the most frequent cause of heart valve replacement. Its incidence has been increasing, and is related to increased morbidity and mortality, and over the years the management of this disease has been changing. The objective was to determine the management of aortic stenosis in order to present new or instructive aspects of the disease in a clinical case. The methodology applied in this research is qualitative, descriptive and prospective, we worked with a clinical case of a patient with aortic stenosis who is treated in a hospital in the city of Cuenca, for this purpose we reviewed his medical history. The history of her current disease describes that for 3 years she has been attended by cardiology with the detection of a systolic murmur in the aortic focus which has been followed up. In addition, he has been presenting difficulty to ambulate, presents sudden onset retrosternal pain of strong intensity of oppressive character irradiated to the left lower limb and mandibular region with concomitant sudden loss of consciousness, as well as medical interdisciplinarity in the care of the elderly is of vital importance when it is decided to submit them to surgical procedures such as valve implantation for the management of the disease, since it ensures control over the patient’s evolution leading to better postoperative results with a faster recovery and with a minimum of complications.
