Abstract
Business survival is important for local and regional economic development, and understanding the factors that affect this survival is critical to formulating effective business policies and strategies. The present study focuses on analyzing the internal and external factors that influence the survival of commercial companies in the Quevedo canton, Los Ríos province, Ecuador. The methodology consisted of a qualitative and quantitative study applying structured surveys, the sample consisted of a selection of 374 commercial companies, the statistical tools used were the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient, Principal Component Analysis and Regression Analysis. The main results based on the macroenvironment resulted in the generation of two components: insecurity–pandemic and the government–politics, which inversely influenced business survival; Based on the mesoenvironment, the clients and suppliers, component reveal a negative influence, and finally, the microenvironment in its planning and finance components demonstrates a positive influence with the permanence of the companies in the market. It is concluded that companies that manage to successfully manage internal and external factors are more likely to remain sustainable in the long term in a dynamic and challenging business environment.
