Chronic pain management in post-polio syndrome Poliomyelitic syndrome, a case report
Abstract
Chronic pain is a complex condition that persists for an extended period of time, often defined as pain lasting more than three months. Unlike acute pain, which serves as a warning sign of injury or illness, chronic pain can appear without a clear cause and continue even after the initial injury has healed. This type of pain can significantly impact a person's daily life, affecting their physical and emotional well-being. Identify the most important aspects of the clinical case of a patient with chronic pain secondary to poliomyelitis to provide a comprehensive approach to palliative care and pain management to improve the patient's well-being and health recovery. The clinical case study was descriptive, retrospective. The technique used for the collection of the information of the case will be through the review of clinical history and for the description of the pathology will be through the collection of articles extracted from recognized databases such as: Scopus, PorQuest, Pubmed, web of science, lilacs. Inclusion criteria: articles published in the last 5 years, in Spanish and English, attaching the patient's informed consent. A 41-year-old male patient with a history of poliomyelitis at the age of 6 years, who underwent neurorehabilitation therapy for 3 years, leaving as sequelae left hemiparesis, flaccid neurogenic bladder and constipation and pain. Chronic pain represents a significant challenge for both sufferers and health professionals. Its impact goes beyond physical sensation, affecting the quality of life, interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being of individuals, requiring a multidisciplinary, comprehensive and personalized approach
