Violence, testimony and knowledge. The case of midwives in Chiapas

Abstract

This article is within the framework of a research that aimed to contribute to the generation of scientific knowledge and understanding from a gender and health perspective on the knowledge and practices of the parties in relation to breastfeeding and its possible effects in childhood, the mother and the social environment in which in-depth interviews were conducted with midwives in Chiapas. One of the emerging elements of said investigation focused on the stigma that the parties have experienced when carrying out their various tasks. This article offers a reflection based on the narratives of the parties in relation to the importance of testimony as a form of grouping and vindication of diverse knowledge. Also, as part of the denunciation of the violence experienced by the parties regarding the stigmatizing violence against them; the way in which listening to their testimonies and narratives can contribute to the development and preservation of their knowledge individually and socially. As well as political responsibility on the part of the State and as a basis for scientific research itself in favor of the health of women and children at birth.
