Digital epoché and critical judgment: youth information practices in environments of information overload
Abstract
This study examines how youths exercise critical judgment in digital information consumption, using the concept of epojé as the central analytical tool. Through a mixed-methods approach, the research identified partial manifestations of reflective thinking among young people, particularly in verifying information and approaching suspicious content with caution. However, these practices are not always conscious or consistent due to the speed of information and the algorithmic logic of social media. Findings highlight the need to promote educational and communicational spaces that encourage pause, self-awareness, and doubt as civic practices. The study concludes that fostering epojé is not only possible but urgent to develop informed, critical, and empathetic individuals.
