Mudanças no peso corporal, hábitos alimentares e desconforto autopercebido associado à ortodontia: uma revisão da literatura
Resumo
Na literatura ortodôntica atual, foram estabelecidas conexões significativas entre a ortodontia e aspectos do peso corporal, padrões alimentares e percepção subjetiva de desconforto dos pacientes. Um dos achados notáveis é a perda de peso inicial experimentada por muitos pacientes no início do tratamento ortodôntico, possivelmente devido a dificuldades na mastigação de alimentos sólidos causadas pelos aparelhos ortodônticos; destacando a importância de investigar e monitorar os padrões alimentares dos pacientes durante essa fase crítica, bem como fornecer orientação dietética para promover hábitos alimentares mais saudáveis. Foi observado que a adaptação dos pacientes aos aparelhos ortodônticos leva a uma recuperação gradual do peso perdido. Além disso, com as informações fornecidas pelos pacientes sobre seus hábitos alimentares, promove-se uma diferença nos hábitos alimentares diários devido ao desconforto associado à mastigação de diferentes texturas de alimentos; esse desconforto, embora subjetivo e variado, tende a diminuir com o tempo, à medida que os pacientes se adaptam aos aparelhos ortodônticos.
