Magic bookshelf of traditional stories for the development of pre-reading skills in children aged 24 to 36 months

Abstract

The present project, titled “Magic Bookshelf of Traditional Stories for the Development of Pre-Reading Skills in Children Aged 24 a 36 months”, aims to promote pre-reading abilities in early childhood through a playful, interactive, and culturally enriching educational resource. Currently, there is a noticeable decline in children’s exposure to physical books, which limits the development of basic language skills essential for future reading acquisition. This situation, along with the limited availability of age-appropriate materials, highlights the need to implement innovative strategies that spark children's interest in books and strengthen their bond with literature from an early age. The proposal consists of designing and developing a magic bookshelf containing traditional stories selected for their formative, linguistic, and cultural value. This resource will incorporate visual and tactile elements tailored to the developmental characteristics of young children in order to stimulate language, imagination, comprehension, and interaction with texts. Furthermore, the project seeks to promote the active involvement of families and educators in the reading process, reinforcing emotional bonds and learning both at home and in the classroom. The use of sustainable materials will help reduce the environmental impact of the project, while the revalorization of traditional tales will contribute to the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage to future generations.
