Education and Sustainable Practices for the Management of Wastewater Residues in Rural Communities: Case Study of Joá, Manabí
Abstract
This study analyzes the management of wastewater residues in the ancestral community of Joá, Manabí, starting with a baseline assessment that measured the population's knowledge through surveys and interviews with residents. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS software, applying a descriptive statistical analysis to evaluate the community's prior knowledge of waste management. Based on these results, a training program was implemented to raise awareness about proper wastewater management and promote sustainable practices. Subsequently, waste separation bins were distributed in the community, facilitating the practical application of the knowledge acquired. The results showed an improvement in participants' knowledge and a positive attitude toward the adoption of good practices, although structural challenges persist that require monitoring and infrastructure improvements to ensure the sustainability of the interventions.
