Unity as Hospitality: Rethinking Christian Communion in the Age of Pluralism
Abstract
This article proposes a reinterpretation of ecclesial unity through the lens of hospitality, understood as a form of communion that integrates difference without negating it. In the face of contemporary pluralism, it argues that unity should not be conceived as doctrinal uniformity or mere pragmatic coexistence, but as a dialogical and welcoming communion that reflects the Trinitarian life. Using a hermeneutical and interdisciplinary methodology, the biblical, theological, and ethical foundations of an ecclesiology of hospitality are analyzed. The central thesis maintains that this perspective transforms traditional categories of belonging, redefining catholicity as a capacity for welcome. This understanding offers criteria for a synodal ecclesial praxis and a renewed ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.
