Abstract
Gender equality is a key focus in teaching within the educational setting. This study analyzes high school students’ perceptions of equality and discrimination based on gender in physical education classes. Objective: To compare high school students’ perceptions of equality and discrimination based on gender, age, and school in physical education classes at two educational institutions in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Methodology: The study employed a non-experimental design with a descriptive, comparative, quantitative, and cross-sectional scope. The questionnaire on perceptions of equality and discrimination in PE was administered to 388 students (female = 231 and male = 157, with a mean age of 15.99). The results showed that men reported statistically higher levels of discrimination than women (Men: M = 5.87; Women: M = 5.67; p = 0.006). The perception of equal treatment was similar between genders (p = 0.611). Finally, Institution B (private) showed higher scores on the equality variable than Institution A (public). This highlights the need for future studies addressing these inequalities in PE classes.
